The Clara Maass Medical Center Medical Office Building and ICU Expansion is an 87,094-square-foot development that enhances access to outpatient and inpatient services at RWJBarnabas Health’s Clara Maass campus in Belleville, New Jersey. Completed in 2017, the project integrates a new medical office building with a major expansion of the hospital’s intensive care unit, improving both clinical capacity and patient convenience. The development reflects RWJBarnabas Health’s ongoing investment in delivering comprehensive care through modern, accessible facilities that meet the growing healthcare needs of Essex County and the surrounding communities.
FACILITY FEATURES & SERVICES
The project includes a multi-story medical office building directly connected to the main hospital, providing a continuum of care between outpatient and inpatient services. The facility’s key features include:
- New medical office space for RWJBarnabas-affiliated and community physicians
- Expanded Intensive Care Unit with 32 private patient rooms and advanced monitoring systems
- Specialty Clinics including Cardiology, Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, and Surgery
- Outpatient Diagnostic Imaging and Laboratory Services
- Flexible clinical suites designed for multi-specialty use
- Physician lounge, staff support areas, and administrative offices
- Direct connection to the hospital for efficient patient transfers and collaboration
The design promotes convenience and integration, allowing patients to access multiple specialties in one location while supporting efficient care delivery across the hospital campus.
Rendina’s Role
Rendina served as developer and project manager for the Clara Maass Medical Center expansion, overseeing planning, design, and construction from concept to completion. Working closely with RWJBarnabas Health and Clara Maass leadership, Rendina coordinated hospital operations during construction to ensure uninterrupted patient care. The project required extensive site and infrastructure improvements to connect the new facilities with the existing hospital campus, all executed with a focus on schedule, safety, and quality.
